The Disappeared EPK

After successfully delivering titles for their short film “Fractured”, Johnny Kevorkian and Neil Murphy of Minds Eye films approached me to design the logo for their new production company “Lost Tribe Productions”.

During early discussions it became apparent that I could also help them out with the design and branding for their upcoming feature film “The Calling” (later renamed as “The Disappeared”).

A mutual respect and shared obsession for all things film related (and a passion that enables working on very low budgets) eventually led to me directing and producing the “Making of” documentary or “EPK” (Electronic Press Kit).

The benefits to the client is clear. As an appointed Lead Creative the director and producer have one contact to deal with throughout the busy period of production. One contact, multiple product. Once the trust is in place, I have a proven track record of managing and delivering multiple, large scale creative projects for my clients.

I designed the branding for the film and delivered sales brochures, posters, website and then directed and produced the EPK. I visited the set throughout the six week shoot (I had a lot of experience on shoots and in studios so knew how to be invisible when need be). Filming and photographing all the time, I was able to capture the entire production process with unlimited access. I was in rehearsals, on the shoot and in post production without ever treading on any toes. Onset politics are the true key to success on these endeavours and I have a lot of experience (as a freelancer and traveller) of entering various workplaces and getting on with everyone form the security guard on the gate to the lead actor onset. Goodwill gets you the best access.

Knowing what questions to ask the young actor in his first lead role, or the composer and cinematographer all come from a genuine interest in – and experience of – working with creative, talented people over the years. An obsessive ability to talk all aspects of cinema history also helps.

If you are genuinely interested in and respectful of people and passionate about storytelling then a compelling EPK is a relatively easy project to undertake. I hope to be able to help you with yours when the production starts moving. Please get in touch to see if I can help out.
